April Pegram, BSN

University of South Carolina DNP
Biography

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in May 2013. In addition, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2010 from Coastal Carolina University. Currently, I am working on my Doctor of Nurse Practice degree, in which, I am specializing in Primary Care. I have a passion for higher education, as well as helping underserved populations. I am committed to improving the health of the individuals and communities I serve. The DNP Program will fulfill my desire to utilize evidence-based practice, and become a leader in healthcare. As a DNP in a rural setting, focus on health promotion and risk reduction/illness prevention for individuals and families in an underserved population is essential. I will be eager to teach and contribute my hard work so that these vulnerable patients and their loved ones are taken care of at the highest level with compassion and dignity. Furthermore, the DNP profession will permit my participation in policy development, revision, and regulation compliance. Increasing clinical demands are becoming the incentive for legislative and regulatory reforms, which will facilitate an improved effective clinical environment and increase rural access to primary care. For my leadership development project, I will be directly working with nurse leaders in South Carolina to enhance the scope of practice for APRNs.
