Biography

My name is Avrielle White and I am a doctoral student in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program at Columbia University. Previously, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Government at Regent University. For several years I worked as a paralegal while volunteering at a community hospital. While volunteering, I witnessed first hand the inspirational work performed by nurses and nurse practitioners alike and decided that I wanted to make a contribution to the practice. I developed a strong interest in psychiatry while in nursing school and was also particularly fond of my pediatric rotation because I enjoy working with children. Accordingly, I am interested in pursuing research pertaining to psychiatric treatment of children and adolescents with a focus on autism spectrum disorders. I work as a psychiatric nurse at a geriatric PROS program called the Service Program for Older People (SPOP). I am also a home care nurse for Renewal Care Partners. I am a recipient of the Masters Direct Entry Scholarship from Columbia University and also the Sidney and Loretta Tisch Scholarship. I have volunteered for COSMO, the Columbia student run medical clinic, the Susan J. Komen breast cancer foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Mount Sinai Hospital.
