Daniela Maria Hazelwood, RN

Augusta University DNP
Biography

I am currently enrolled in a Fulltime DNP-FNP program. I first graduated from an associate degree nursing program at Augusta State University where I obtained by Registered Nursing license. Upon graduation I began working at Doctors Hospital of Augusta as a mother-baby nurse. After one year, I cross-trained to labor and delivery where I have been for over three years now. I have been actively involved with breastfeeding initiative at my hospital. I became certified as a lactation counselor, which allowed me to be one of few on my unit to lead the way with Best Fed Beginning program that our hospital has been selected to participate in. I aimed to encourage our nurses to implement skin to skin after delivery, and educate nurses and families about breastfeeding. In the past year I have attained the role as a preceptor for new nurses and nurses new to our unit. While working, I began a RN to BSN program with Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern University, I was selected to become a Minority Health International Research Training (MHIRT) scholar. This allowed me to study abroad to Vienna, Austria where I conducted a systematic review titled “Patients with cancer and family caregivers: Management of symptoms caused by cancer or cancer therapy at home.” This article was published in the German Journal Heilberufe Science.
