Biography

Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau and Beta Beta Beta (2000) as I graduated (top 5%) of my BSN program. I specialized as a psychiatric nurse in 2002, was head nurse of MAMC inpatient psychiatric unit 2004-2006. My behavioral restraint reduction project won a MAMC clinical investigations research day award, was presented in AMSUS poster session, and selected as Karen Reeder award runner up. I became a PMHNP in 2008, worked with a high risk trainee population through 2009, and precepted BAMC, FNP resident, psychiatric rotations. I then directed a combat stress control team, in Mosul Iraq in 2010. Next, I was appointed as the first ARNP Attending at MAMC, and precepted GME rotations. In 2011, I designed and directed a hospital-wide behavioral health triage program, and was recognized as MAMC Nurse Practitioner of the Year. I retired in 2012. That year, I returned as a GS-14 civilian nursing supervisor to stand up/direct a behavioral health clinic and pilot a telemental health initiative. In 2013, I also began a solo, private psychiatric-mental health practice (continued to date). In 2015, I was accepted into the UW nursing Ph.D. program. I graduated the UW DNP program (3.94 GPA) in 2016, and coauthored an abstract accepted for an MHSRS oral presentation and an AMSUS poster session. This summer I have guest lectured BSN nursing students about nursing professionalization, and served on the UW Suicide Prevention Training Curriculum Committee. Also, in 2016, the Journal of Clinical Nursing accepted my letter to the editor (JOCN13404).
