Biography

I am a 3rd year PhD student at University of Utah College of Nursing in an oncology cohort. My past experiences as a diabetes educator have enabled me to look at oncology nursing care through a different lens. My dissertation will include looking through that lens at people who develop diabetes after cancer treatments, specifically those who received hematopoietic cell transplantations. I am interested in seeing how they socially construct illness as it plays a role in subsequent disease management. I am currently a Pre-doctoral Fellow at City of Hope in the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism. I also teach for Boise State University’s RN-BSN online program. I am grateful to have the support of the University of Utah’s Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence as a Noorda-Hartford Scholar for 2013-2015 and also as a recipient of the Oncology Nursing Society’s Research Doctorate Scholarship for 2014-2015. In 2014 I received the Marcia C. Liebman New Writer Excellence Award from the Oncology Nursing Society for my first publication.
