Biography

Julia is a second year PhD student at Case Western Reserve University where she also serves as a graduate research fellow and project manager. She assists her advisor, Dr. Valerie Toly, in researching families living with technology-dependent children. She received her BSN from Case Western Reserve University in 2014. She has a strong research interest in self-management during transitions from pediatric to adult healthcare in emerging adults with type 1 diabetes. Julia has recently become a certified diabetes educator candidate (CDE) and plans to take the exam in Fall 2016. She works part-time as a Certified Insulin Pump Trainer (CPT), Clinical Consultant (CPC) and diabetes educator at an insulin pump company. She is also the nurse manager at Camp Ho Mita Koda for children with diabetes. Julia is originally from Connecticut but has grown to love the diabetes community in Cleveland. She serves as a chair of events for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation-Northeast Ohio Chapter. She volunteers her time to fundraising for Camp Ho Mita Koda and planning summer camp. Her time is dedicated to inspiring others with type 1 diabetes to lead positive and healthy lives. She plans to forever educate others with diabetes and their family members. Her future plans with a doctoral degree are to continuing making an impact in the diabetes community through research and education.
