Biography

Karina Santibanez has been a psychiatric nurse practitioner for one year; currently working with children at Four Winds Hospital. As a recipient of the Merit Scholarship Award from Fordham University she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and later went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from an Accelerated BSN Nursing program at DeSales University. After earning the Distinguished Master’s Honor Award in 2013 she enrolled into NYU’s Nursing’s PhD program. Her passion for serving the psychiatric community flourished while providing care for the underprivileged population both locally and internationally. As a SARET participant, she was a research intern at CHIPPS. More recently she has been involved in a study presented at the 2013 ISPN annual conference. Simultaneously, involved in an NIH funded study encouraging collaboration between NYU ‘s Nursing School and College of Dentistry to help strengthen interdisciplinary approach.She continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and is an excellent role model. She is a mentor for the Hillman Mentorship program, helping in mentoring undergraduate nursing students. Additionally, she is a clinical instructor for the acute undergraduate Psychiatric Nursing course at NYU. She remains a member of the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society and plans to continue her training at the Beck’s Institute with Dr. Judith Beck.
