Kodiak Soled is a Ph.D. student at Columbia University, a 2018–2020 Jonas Scholar, and the 2018–2019 HPiT co-chair for GLMA’s executive board. Her research interest includes perinatal health disparities in sexual and gender minorities. She is particularly passionate about using feminist theory to challenge normative discourses that privilege heternormativity in research and clinical practice. Soled seeks to build a foundation of research that makes sexual and gender minorities health disparities visible and promotes health equity for individual and families in this community. Soled earned her Bachelors of Arts in International and Intercultural Studies from Pitzer College and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University (where she was both a Research Honors and SOURCE scholar). During this time, she worked on various transgender health research initiatives under the direction of Tonia Poteat, Ph.D. She was also a SOURCE Governing Board member and an Out for Business Executive Board member. This Out for Business team went on to receive the 2018 Diversity Recognition Award for outstanding contributions and demonstrable efforts in advancing diversity and inclusion at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to her career in nursing, Soled was a certified natural chef, perinatal nutritionist, and clinical herbalist. She used this knowledge and training to bootstrap two profitable small businesses in the health and wellness industry.
