Lisa Steurer, CPNP,CPN

University of Missouri-Kansas City PhD
Biography

My name is Lisa Steurer and I am currently enrolled in the PhD program in Nursing at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I received my BSN from St. Louis University in 1990 and my MSN from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1997. I am certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner and my clinical experience has predominantly been in pediatric emergency nursing. I have been employed by St. Louis Children’s Hospital for 22 years and am currently the APN for Professional Practice. This is a leadership role within the hospital where I assist in the development of nursing evidence-based practice (EBP)protocols and procedures and instruct staff nurses in our EBP Fellowship Program. My research interests include women’s health issues such as the sustainment of breastfeeding for premature infants and the early recognition and treatment of post-partum depression. My dissertation work will be a randomized control trial that investigates the benefits of manual expression in conjunction with pump expression to sustain breastfeeding for mothers of premature infants. After graduation, I hope to obtain a faculty position at a university so I can pursue my love of teaching with my passion for women’s health and pediatric research.
