Biography

My name is Mira Castaneda. I obtained my Masters of Science in Nursing at University of Phoenix in 2009. I obtained my certificate on Nurse Excellence at ANCC. I have worked at VALB from 2006 as a Nurse Manager and was recently promoted as a Chief of Patient Care Services in Geriatric , Rehabilitation , Medicine and Extended Care Group of VA Long Beach. I am instrumental in developing the hospital wide fall prevention program, Shared Governance, Journal club and Professional of Image Committee at VALB. I am currently enrolled on the DNP Program at the California State University Consortium. I have extensive knowledge and experience with the Geriatric population having worked as a Director of Nursing of a 240 beds privately owned skilled nursing facility for 13 years prior to my VALB employment. I have extensive knowledge of the long term care standards, Joint Commission standards and CARF standards. I have been instrumental in VALB successful surveys. I enjoy starting new programs and implementing new directives to improve nursing practice, patient care , safety and patient quality of life. I am a co lead of the VISN 22 Geriatric Extended Care Committee and a member of the National GEC Council. I have attended several leadership trainings and seminars locally and nationally .I am a member of NOVA and previously of sigma theta tau. I would like to be involved in nursing research focusing on geriatric population and transformational leadership.
