Biography

Nancy Knechel received her BSN from University of Maryland, Baltimore and MSN from University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Acute Care. She is currently a PhD candidate at Yale University. Her dissertation focuses on the relationship between sleep disturbance and falls. With nearly 10 years of experience in trauma and emergency care, her interest in injury among older adults began during her clinical practice as a Trauma Nurse Practitioner at UC San Diego Medical Center. The long-term goal of her work is reducing injury-related morbidity and mortality among older adults. Ms. Knechel has also served in numerous organizational leadership positions, most recently completing her term as an elected member of the Congress with the American Nurses Association. She is currently running for Chair (Elect) of the Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization within the Gerontological Society of America.
