Biography

Pat is currently in the DNP track of the PMHNP program at OHSU. He has worked as an RN on the Trauma & Surgical ICU at OHSU for the last 4 years after obtaining his BSN with summa cum laude honors in 2014. As an RN, he was an active member of the Unit-Based Nursing Practice Council on the TSICU for more than 2 years. He contributed on multiple process improvement projects, spearheading one aimed at cost-containment through improving the decision making process around the necessity of daily lab collection. During his time working as an RN in critical care, he witnessed the often profoundly negative health consequences of poorly managed or unmanaged mental illness. These experiences led him toward the PMHNP program, because he realized that helping people get the mental health care they need earlier could help them avoid the painful and costly consequences that arise down the road. Pat is open to a variety of clinical experiences going forward, but his specialty interests currently include pain management and substance dependency, which are the areas he hopes to focus his energy for his DNP project.
