Biography

Rakiyah Jones is a MSN/DNP student at Columbia University specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a subspecialty in palliative and end-of-life care. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Montclair State University, Bachelor’s of Nursing at Rutgers School of Nursing (formerly University of Medicine and Dentistry), and MPH in Nutrition and MBA in Healthcare Management at Liberty University. In 2010, Rakiyah commissioned on active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and mobilized to number of overseas areas including Seoul, South Korea. His Army nursing experience includes medical-surgical, maternal-child health, critical care and trauma. CPT Jones recently transitioned from active duty to the Army Reserves to complete his doctoral education. While in school full-time, he serves as a Army Medic Instructor under the 80th Training Command. He will undertake doctoral clinical studies in the area of palliative care access among the Veteran community, with a focus on the palliative care experience among underserved minority veterans and how cultural competence affects the end-of-life experience.
