Biography

Sharon Coulter is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Allied Health at Southern University and A&M College. She is currently a PhD candidate and alumna of Southern University. Sharon has sixteen years of teaching experience in licensed practical and bachelor’s nursing programs. She has over 10 years of clinical nursing experience. During her career at Southern University, Sharon has served as Course Coordinator, Undergraduate Level III Coordinator, Undergraduate Curriculum Chair, Graduating Seniors’ Advisor, and Assistant University Marshal. She organizes the annual food drive for the College of Nursing to donate to the local area food bank. Sharon is a member of a number of professional organizations including, Baton Rouge District Nurses Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and National Scholars Honor Society. She has served as counselor for Tau Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Sharon has received recognition for excellence in nursing by the Baton Rouge District Nurses Association. She is deeply committed to the profession of nursing. After over a decade of professional experience, Sharon remains passionate about educating future professional nurses and client-centered care. Her research interest has always centered on the success of students, their learning styles and transitioning to practice. Sharon’s dissertation focuses on examining the relationships among critical thinking, caring behaviors and clinical reasoning abilities in baccalaureate nursing students.
