Biography

I received my BSN from University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1988. In 1991, I began working at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD in the National Cancer Institute. Since then, I have worked with patients across the lifespan and across the continuum of this disease. I have been employed as a research nurse in adult, pediatric and radiation oncology and pediatric HIV/ AIDs drug development. I achieved a Master of Science degree in Advanced Practice Oncology Nursing also from the UMSON in 1996. I have always strived to remain current in my position as a Senior Nurse Specialist in Research. I entered the UMSON as a CWO student in the fall of 2013. Since then, I was formally accepted and will officially begin the DNP curriculum in the fall 2014. I have refined my practice problem of interest to be: In young adults with life-limiting cancer, does advance care planning communication, result in increased QOL as measured by increased social support, decreased anxiety and increased emotional acceptance
