Prior to working for Baptist, I worked at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. I am also chemotherapy biotherapy certified by the Oncology Nursing Society. I have treated patients in a variety of settings, including medical-surgical, telemetry, ICU, mother-baby, and psychiatric departments. Throughout my studies, my passion for becoming a Nurse Practitioner has grown. While earning my BSN I shadowed and worked with NPs in a community clinic, at a private office, and within an Emergency Department. While earning my MSN, which I completed in August 2016, I trained in a pediatric urgent care center, an emergency department, a community clinic, a private clinic, and a private, geriatric-centered practice. I expect to receive my Doctorate in December 2017. The focus of my Doctorate work will be on negative pressure wound therapy. Following graduation, I would like to focus on preventative care within the community care setting.

Wayne State University PhD
Biography

I am part time PhD student at Wayne State University going into my second year. My research interest include Obesity and health disparities among African American women. I have interest in vulnerable populations such as African American women and Veterans. I am currently employed at the VA as nurse/facility educator. Many of our Veterans have health issues that have to have some cultural sensitivity considerations similar to African American Women. As an nurse educator at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Detroit Michigan, I have the pleasure ensuring staff are prepared and are up to date with the most recent evidence as it pertains to practice and patient care. I have received many awards concerning my dedication. I ensure our nurses give the best quality care for those who served. My masters degree has prepared me extremely well for my current role as a nurse/facility educator, but I feel I need more. As a professional nurse, I encounter a lot of why questions and sometimes the current research does not answer those burning questions. By obtaining my PhD, not only can I begin to answer those burning questions as a nurse researcher, but my doctorate degree will help me mentor those interested in research at the VA (especially nursing) and will enhance my role as an educator in the VA by giving me tools and resources. I believe what I learn in my Doctorate program will have a direct effect on how I help nurses help Veterans as well.

Erin Lind, BSN

University of San Diego DNP
Biography

I am currently a second year DNP student at University of San Diego. Before graduate school I was an active duty Navy Nurse for four years stationed in both Guam and San Diego. My specialty is in emergency/trauma nursing. I am currently a Navy Reservist and serve as the Administrative officer for our unit and work in the Emergency Department at Naval Medical Center San Diego. This semester I was accepted into the Primary Medical Education (PRIME) program at the VA where I work in a family practice setting in the Veteran Healthcare System. It has truly been an honor to care for active duty and now the veteran population. As a nurse my passion is in both healing and educating patients on caring for themselves. Chronic pain has become an epidemic among both the active duty and veteran population. I believe that by empowering our active duty and veterans with knowledge about self-care and non-pharmacological alternatives to pain management, we will reduce the strain of their pain physically and psychologically. Ultimately, this will allow our veterans to live a healthy fulfilled life that they deserve.
