Ludmila Santiago-Rotchford, MSN,APRN,ACNS-BC, PCCN
Biography
I am currently a doctoral student in the PhD program at the University of Delaware. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist on a Progressive Care Unit I developed an interest in the decision making patterns that influence adherence to treatment plans in patients with heart failure. In reviewing the literature there seemed to be a need to explore patient perceptions in management of symptoms of heart failure. Prior to becoming a doctoral student I was an adjunct faculty member for the School of Nursing at Wesley College for seven years. My love for teaching and mentoring nurses, along with my desire to conduct research made pursuing a PhD as the next logical step in my career trajectory. Most recently I have begun to mentor an at risk high school student through the ASPIRA program and a student nurse scholarship recipient from the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. As President-Elect for the Delaware Chapters of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses reflect my interests in the clinical setting as a critical care nurse and in the community in serving the needs of the members of the Hispanic Community in Delaware. I have been nominated several times as a Top Nurse in Delaware Today in the Advanced Practice Role category.

Biography
I am currently in my first year as a Doctor of Nursing Practice student at the University of San Diego. Previously, I served five years on active duty as a Nurse Corps Officer, to include a deployment to Afghanistan. I currently work as a CCRN RN in the intensive care unit at Sharp Coronado Hospital in San Diego, CA. Being a veteran and having served overseas, I have a strong affinity to take care of our country’s veterans. I feel privileged to be able to provide care to those who have served our country. Chronic pain is such a prevalent affliction in this patient population. I am excited to implement an evidenced based practice project to alleviate pain and therefore suffering for San Diego’s veterans. By utilizing a self-care model as a non-pharmacological intervention, I strive to decrease chronic pain and increase overall quality of life. When active duty, I served as the military team leader in the ICU at Naval Medical Center San Diego when stationed there for two years. I also was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals; one for my service when stationed at Naval Hospital Guam and another for my deployment to Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Jacqueline Saucier, CCRN, CEN,
Biography
I am a doctoral research student at the University of San Diego. My dissertation focus is on palliative care assessments in the emergency department with a focus on family readiness to discuss end of life issues in the emergency department. I have been a nurse for over 30 years with a very diverse background serving in both clinical and administrative roles. Currently, I am a Senior Nursing Director, over two campuses, responsible for emergency services, critical care, endoscopy and operations supervisors. Typically, the emergency departments are overcrowded with patients and families who lack the necessary knowledge and resources to be cared for in the right place for the right reason. Nurses need to be equipped with the appropriate instruments and tools to assist families and patients to access needed resources. Limited access to care, coupled with rising medical costs makes this dissertation topic a much needed research topic for the near future.
