Mary Christine Jared, MS, RN, PMHNP-BC

Photo of Mary Christine Jared MS, RN, PMHNP-BC
New York University PhD
Biography

Mary Christine (Christy) Jared, MS, RN, PMHNP-BC is a PhD student in the Florence S. Downs PhD Program in Nursing Research and Theory Development at the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her research interests/career goals are to enhance public health outcomes by developing holistic nursing intervention programs for people struggling with weight issues. She wants to examine the psychological underpinnings of overweight and obesity, how childhood trauma impacts these conditions, and determine if offering therapy and other supportive nursing services to identify and address trauma could lead to healthier weight and enhanced quality of life. She is committed to studying this phenomenon with the intent of going beyond ‘eat less and exercise more’ treatment recommendations to developing methods that are focused on individual needs, levels of motivation and challenges faced in achieving healthy weight and maintaining it. In addition, she is interested in examining the key role that nurses have on health care teams in leading the effort toward comprehensive, nuanced, holistic weight management programs. During her 25-year career as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, Christy has had the great honor of caring for patients and their families in multiple health care settings and in diverse nursing roles. She has also been involved in local and international volunteer work and has presented on nursing professional practice; staff, management and community education, quality and patient safety and age-sensitive care of older adults.

Shawn Jeune, MSN APRN-ACNS, RN, CST, CNOR

The Sage Colleges PhD
Biography

I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) program at Sage Graduate School. I currently have an associate degree in nursing, a bachelors degree in nursing and a masters degree in nursing. I work as a clinical education specialist at Albany Medical Center as well as a nursing faculty member and program director of surgical technology at Hudson Valley Community College. I developed a curriculum in surgical technology for Hudson Valley Community college and we are seeking the initial accreditation currently. My past roles have been as a staff nurse in a level one trauma center operating room, a nursing supervisor in a long term care setting and an assistant nurse manager in a level one trauma center operating room. I plan to study knowledge translation within the first year of nursing practice. Research states that nurses who are in their first year of practice, do not feel adequately prepared and as a result we are seeing poor quality scores and a rise in unsafe practice. I hope to bridge this gap by testing interventions that lead to knowledge translation within this population and ultimately improve patient safety and quality. I would like to ultimately implement a knowledge Translation model into practice where all education interventions are developed using this model; bridging this gap on a larger scale.
