Biography
The Jonas Scholarship / Veterans Healthcare impacted Ursula’s career by allowing her to develop and purpose improvement in the delivery of care the OIF/OEF post deployment Veterans at that time and in the future. The scholarship allowed the continuation of her quest to develop a more integrated and seamless system of post deployment transition for all Veterans accessing the Veterans Healthcare System. Through the attainment of the scholarship, she was able to continue assist in the development of the OIF/OEF Post deployment outpatient clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. As a member of the Alumni Council, she would like to be a part of the development of a mentor program that would foster the design for more population healthcare in the setting of community/government hospitals. Create awareness about the Jonas Scholar Program among professional nurses serving the Veteran Affairs Medical Center for future scholars. Development of a profession pathway to growth for future doctoral nurses.

Biography
I am currently a PhD candidate enrolled at Indiana University in the PhD in Nursing Science program. My research interest is focused on improving outcomes for women and children who have been affected by the opioid crisis. My research is focused on the mother-infant relationship in opioid-exposed dyads. For my dissertation, I am proposing a grounded theory method to explore the experiences of mothers with infants that have been diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome. I received my BSN degree in 2001 and my MSN in 2010 in nursing education from Ball State University. I received the Clauser award for my academic performance during my undergraduate study. I have 8 years of experience working as a full-time faculty member at Ball State University and teaching maternal child and women’s health nursing. I am both a didactic and clinical nursing instructor and lead students in a variety of clinical settings and simulations. I also work as registered nurse on the pediatric and mother-baby units at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and have 16 years experience. I received the Customer Service Award for going beyond the expected nursing care for my patients at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. As nursing faculty, in addition to supervising undergraduate students, I also mentor graduate nursing students during their practicum. I serve on faculty and curriculum committees in the school of nursing and function in various roles. I hold memberships to AWHONN and Sigma Theta Tau.

Dissertation: A study of how mothers experience interactions with their infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome: A grounded theory approach My study will explore how mothers who are opioid dependent experience and make meaning from their interactions with their infant that experience neonatal abstinence syndrome. Dr. Annie Rohan
Biography
Dr. Rohan earned her BS degree with a major in Nursing from SUNY Binghamton (1987). She quickly moved into an acute care clinical career in New York City. While working as a staff nurse in the NICU at Cornell Medical Center (now New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center), she was selected for participation in the Cornell University Medical College Continuing Education Program for Nurses where she earned a Certificate as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (1989, prior to graduate degree requirement for APRNs). She soon earned her first MS degree from Columbia University (1991), and a Post-Graduate Certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from SUNY Stony Brook (1993). Midway through her advanced practice career, Dr. Rohan returned to Columbia University where she earned a Ph.D. after being selected to become a member of the first national cohort of Jonas Nursing Scholars (2008-2013).
Dr. Rohan’s 30+ year advanced practice clinical career focusing on maternal-child populations notably supports her current academic priorities, which includes work as a national advisor to the American Nurses Association (Nurse Practice Advisory Council) and to the March of Dimes (Nurse Advisory Committee).
An avid writer, Dr. Rohan has received several awards recognizing innovative and scientific contributions supporting the evidence base for nursing and healthcare practice. Her educational research focuses on developing writing skills in graduate nursing students and using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Her interdisciplinary and interprofessional research focuses on using technology to address persistent issues impacting pediatric health. To achieve the educational goal of a more diverse healthcare workforce, Dr. Rohan has received nearly $3 million in federal and foundation grant funding to support the education of financially, educationally, or environmentally disadvantaged students who seek to become healthcare providers in underserved regions of New York.
Dr. Rohan serves as an onsite evaluator for the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and is Associate Editor of MCN: The American Journal of Maternal-Child Nursing, where she oversees its “Toward Evidence-Based Practice” column. Her most recent publication focus has been as Associate Editor for pediatric content of AWOHNN’s popular textbook, Perinatal Nursing (5th Ed, Simpson & Creehan editors, LWW).

Biography
Roberto L. Roman Laporte is currently in the DNP program at Johns Hopkins University. He graduated with his MSN in 2014 from the University of Miami and completed his undergraduate studies at Miami Dade College with honors. He is a Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse and is also a Preceptor Specialist (certified preceptor awarded by the American Academy for Preceptor Advancement). He has been a nurse for over seven years and has practiced as a Medical-Surgical Oncology nurse and is cross-trained in the Progressive Care Unit. He currently is a corporate Clinical Learning Educator working closely with the RN Residency and Preceptor Programs at Baptist Health South Florida. He is a former director of nursing for a practical nurse program. He is a co-investigator for two research studies one study focusing on the Married State Preceptorship Model and the other study focusing on Unit-based Competencies. He has received numerous accolades from patients, which earned him the Doctors Hospital Nightingale Award in 2011. He also received the Nurse of the Year award for Doctors Hospital, 2 West. On his spare time he helps new graduate nurses prepare for the NCLEX-RN. He is currently a member of a new committee called WINN-NTF (Workforce Integration of New Nurses-Nursing the Future). Roberto is passionate about working with new graduate nurses and newly licensed registered nurses and wants to improve their transition to practice.

Biography
My name is Raymond Romano, I am a doctoral student Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. I have a focus in health services research, and my specific research interests are in detection of dementia and care for dementia patients in the primary care setting. My interests began during my undergraduate career, when I studied the role a protein, Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 5, has in insulin related neurodegenerative diseases. I was particularly interested in the molecular pathway hyperinsulinemia has on the aberrant behavior of CDK5 contributing to the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease. After my undergraduate education I received a Master in Public Health from Boston University and began working in clinical research at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Center. I moved to Nashville to join the Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer’s Center (VMAC) and to complete the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program as a pre-specialty student. I am currently working as a FNP in primary care practice with the Metro Nashville Public School system and at the Gaylord Opryland Clinic. Particular studies I have worked on have focused on vascular health and Alzheimer’s disease pathology, subjective memory complaints, and barriers of minority groups to participation in research.

I am the Accreditation Coordinator for the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS). In this role, I am involved with system-wide performance improvement activities. I am frequently involved with Behavioral Health providers and have developed an interest in the care of Veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), especially how caring for this population affects the mental and physical health of the healthcare worker. I believe this is an area of research that has not been fully explored. I have a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Leadership from Samford University, as well as an MSN and BSN from the University of North Alabama. Recently, I was recognized as Nurse Scholar at CAVHS and also recently successfully passed the national examination as a Certified Joint Commission Professional. I have experience in Nursing Leadership as well as Quality and Performance Improvement, and am a Certified Green Belt in Lean Healthcare. I am currently in my second year of the PhD program. I am pursuing a PhD in order to devlop the skills to conduct research. My immediate research goal is to examine the experiences of healthcare professionals who work in the Veterans Healthcare Administration and provide care on a routine basis to Veterans diagnosed with PTSD, and explore the impact on their own mental and physical health. By identifying and treating PTSD in providers, I hope to be able to increase retention of providers and promote continuity of care for Veterans.

Biography
Tamara Rose is currently a doctoral student at Idaho State University School of Nursing. Ms. Rose previously completed a BSN from Oregon Institute of Technology and an MSN from Oregon Health & Science University in 1992 and 2006 repectively. With an interest in nursing education, Ms. Rose’s area of research is in the transitional period from the education environment to the practice environment for a new nurse. Ms. Rose began her teaching career at Oregon Health & Science University, School of Nursing, undergraduate program in 1997. After 15 years of clinical and classroom teaching she accepted the role as an associate dean. Previous leadership roles include clinical mangement of a mental health facility for 12 years and currently is in the position of Board Chair for a Federally Quailified Health Center (FQHC). Active in her community, Ms. Rose has worked collaboratively with a group of local healthcare professionals and public officals on an initiative to improve the health of the county and it’s citizens. Ms. Rose also spearheaded the development of educational training through simulation for the local rape crisis intervention team. The development of a pilot project resulted from the small-scale research project and has been presented at 2 international conference as a poster presentation.

Biography
Captain Brenda Ross currently is a Regional Clinical Manager at Program Support Center-Federal Occupational Health Clinical Services Division in Dallas, TX. She is responsible for the operational management of 81 occupational health centers nationally. Captain Ross is a mission-oriented Public Health Nurse Executive with more than sixteen years of occupational and environmental healthcare experience including federal program development, management and oversight; budgeting, contracts and acquisitions; and performance improvement and regulatory compliance. Prior clinical experience includes occupational and environmental health, federal corrections, community health, intermediate care, and post-anesthesia care. Captain Ross received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly University of Southwestern Louisiana), a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Health Care Education from University of Phoenix. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington where her research focus is on wellness and health promotions, specifically smoking cessation in federal employees.

Christina Ross, PhD, RN
Biography
Dr. Ross earned her PhD in 2019 from the University of Virginia, School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2013) from The University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut. Christina is also an emergency trauma prepared nurse. Her research interest involves health promotion and risk reduction among vulnerable adolescents locally and globally, sexual and reproductive health, and global health disparities. Her goal is to develop interventions to address the elevated rates of STIs and unintended teenage pregnancy, and ensure vulnerable youth have equal access to quality health care. Dr. Ross has a passion for global health and was the 2018 NIH Minority Health International Research Training Grant Scholar, where she mentored undergraduate students and conducted research among young adults in South Africa to understand alcohol use and its impact on pregnancy and relationships. Her most recent study/dissertation looked at Female adolescents’ perspectives regarding their SRH needs while in foster care.

Alicia Rossiter
Biography
Alicia Gill Rossiter, DNP, FNP, PPCNP‐BC, FAANP, FAAN is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Veteran to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Major at the University of South Florida College of Nursing. She also serves as the College of Nursing Military Liaison. She graduated with her BSN from The University of Alabama and her Masters and Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Florida. She is a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner. Dr. Rossiter served in the United States Army Nurse Corps on active duty for four years which included two deployments—a combat deployment to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and a humanitarian mission to Honduras, Central America. She branch transferred into the United States Air Force Reserves in 1995 and served as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) until she retired in June 2015. In her last assignment she served as adjunct faculty and the IMA to the Air Force Chief Nurse at the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Service University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland—the Nation’s only federal/military health science university. Her military experience has the been the impetus behind her research and scholarly work which includes women veterans and military sexual trauma, the effects of parental military service on military connected children, and transitioning needs of medics and corpsmen into the professional role of nursing. She was instrumental in the development of a first of its kind College of Nursing online “Introduction to Military and Veteran Health” course. Dr. Rossiter completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice in May 2015. During her Doctoral program at USF she was selected as a Bob Woodward Jonas Veteran Healthcare Scholar and an American Academy of Nursing Jonas Policy Scholar with the Military and Veteran Health Expert Panel.

Biography
Debbie’s career as a nurse has found her in the practice areas of Critical Care, Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. She has practiced as a bedside nurse, educator and manager. She has worked in her home state of Pennsylvania, Michigan and California. Debbie was part of a group of emergency nurses who developed and delivered presentations concerning alcohol related emergencies to elementary and high schools in Michigan. Biography
Meghan Routt MSN, ANP/GNP-BC, AOCNP currently works as a nurse practitioner for Wesley Glen-Methodist Elder Care Services which is a not for profit continuing care retirement community committed to serving older adults and helping facilitate aging in place. Meghan is currently enrolled full time as a nursing PhD student at the University of Utah. She was awarded a Noorda gerontology fellowship for her first three years of coursework in the PhD. She is also a former Hartford Scholar awarded in her MSN program. Meghan has served as the national practice committee chair for the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nursing Association as well as is the immediate past president of the Ohio Chapter and serves as the current secretary/treasurer. She has published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, edited three books, two currently in press and done podium presentations on the local, national and international level. Meghan’s dissertation will focus on developing a multi-modal personalized prehabilitation intervention in older adults diagnosed with pancreatic cancer prior to a pancreaticoduodenctomy. She is honored to accept the prestigious Jonas Nurse Leadership scholarship.

Angela Ruckdeschel, MSN, RN
Biography
I am currently a full-time PhD student on the nursing education track at University of Las Vegas, Nevada. My research interest is in exploring the use of academic electronic health records in better preparing undergraduate nursing students for clinical rotations and eventually professional practice. Before academics, my career was in oncology and hospice nursing. My work experience includes overseeing a graduate nurse program in an outpatient oncology setting and as a hospice nurse educator where I was responsible for developing a graduate nurse internship program. It was through these experiences that I discovered my passion for teaching and returned to school. I am currently a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Golden Key International Honor Society, and the Graduate Nursing Student Association. Recent awards include Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 2015, Lahr Scholarship recipient in 2014 and 2015, and a Graduate Assistantship for the upcoming academic year 2016-2017.

Biography
Sandra Rust graduated from Utah Valley Community College in 2002 with an associate degree in applied science. Sandra continued her formal education and graduated Cum Laude from Weber State University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She practiced as an R.N. and administer/Director of Nursing for the last 8 years at a rural home health and hospice agency in Vernal, UT. Her leadership consisted of providing on-going education to agency nurses and staff, maintaining state and federal regulations and setting high standards for patient care. By working in a rural environment, Sandra learned the detriments in accessing health care for rural America. In 2013, Sandra returned to formal education to accomplish her goal of obtaining certification as a family nurse practitioner. Sandra is currently enrolled in University of Utah’s doctoral nursing program and is centering on family medicine. She yearns to work in rural America and with under served populations. Sandra looks forward to carry on her education and increasing her knowledge in providing care for the pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.
