Eunice Soh, MSN, MPH, FNP-C

Photo of Eunice Soh MSN, MPH, FNP-C
University of Washington PhD
Biography

Currently, I am a third year PhD Nursing Science student at the University of Washington School of Nursing and am a NIOSH ERC trainee. Overall, my research interest is on the wellbeing of workers who provide medical and social services to “vulnerable/marginalized” communities and may themselves be “vulnerable/marginalized”. Particularly, I am interested in the intersection of social constructs of race, gender, and class with work and non-work environments on worker wellbeing. My academic and professional career have shaped my population and topic of interest. My undergraduate training and work as a nurse in emergency medicine and my graduate education in public health and nursing opened opportunities to work abroad and locally with vulnerable/marginalized communities. Additionally, working in clinical practice as a FNP in community health over the last 6 years has further informed this research interest.

Angela Sojobi, DNP, CNM

Photo of Angela Sojobi DNP, CNM
University of Nevada-Las Vegas PhD
Biography

My journey as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) began in Nigeria 37 years ago, where I provided care to women in rural areas due to significant lack of access to care. After immigrating to the United States, I continued to practice as a CNM mainly in underserved areas, and eventually obtained a Master of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees. I am actively engaged in my local community health programs, providing patient education and preventive care programs through health fairs and pap smear and mammogram drives. I developed programs to decrease the incidence of preterm delivery, low birth weight, and anemia in pregnancy. Recognizing a growing need for focused diabetes education among the vulnerable populations I serve, I developed and implemented a Gestational Diabetes Education program in my community-based healthcare system providing care to primarily Hispanic and African American underserved populations. I also serve as a clinical preceptor for CNM and NP students. My clinical practice and preceptorship earned me Values in Action Awards in excellence and hospitality and recognition as a valued preceptor. My main interest and goal are to help women in vulnerable populations achieve optimal health through preventive health care and successful self-management of chronic diseases. As a PhD student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing, my goals are to develop a program of research applying a social-ecological model to study gestational diabetes in Hispanic women, with a focus on how social support enhances self-management and glycemic control.

Photo of Jiyoun Song MS, AGACNP-BC, RN
Columbia University PhD
Biography

As a predoctoral student at Columbia University, I have worked closely with the interdisciplinary research teams including “Nursing Intensity of Patient Care Needs and Rates of Healthcare-associated Infections [NIC-HAI],” and “The Center for Improving Palliative Care in Vulnerable Adults with multiple chronic conditions [CIPC].” In addition, as a graduate research assistant and data manager, I have many experiences in managing and processing big data utilizing statistical analysis software such as SAS, R, SQL, and MS Excel. I am proficient in quantitative research. I am interested in using new technologies like large data and data analytics (i.e., machine learning) to support health-care research including research on healthcare-associated infections. The real-time application of methodological approaches to comprehensively understand, identify the risk factors and accurately predict the likelihood of HAIs is my research area. During my clinical experiences as staff nursing in a surgical intensive care unit and nurse practitioner over 6 years, I have broadened my perspective in nursing and strong desire to generate the evidence as a research scientist and to apply the evidence as a clinical nurse. Also, I successfully played a role of bridging between Ph.D. student and DNP student by serving as president of the Doctoral Student Organization (DSO) of Columbia University School of Nursing, last year. With my unique background and perspectives, I look forward that my researches contribute to raising the quality of life for public health and patient care.
